The Chopping Block is a premier culinary education and retail organization dedicated to the mission of teaching the world to cook. As a high-end destination for cooking classes, boot camps, and private events, they maintain a market-leading position by providing a sophisticated environment for culinary discovery. Nearly a decade ago, Instrumental (then Revenue River) architected the organization’s previous digital home—a project that won the first-ever HubSpot Impact Award for web design in 2015. While that site successfully supported the brand for years, the evolution of the digital landscape necessitated a modern transformation to match their current prestige.
CHALLENGE Fragmented Content and Technical Debt
Over the course of ten years, technical debt from the legacy build began to stifle The Chopping Block’s growth. What was once pioneering became a source of friction, characterized by a "cluttered" look and feel that hindered the user journey. Key challenges identified in the SOW included:

- Dynamic CMS Data Feed: Leveraged HubL Markup Language to pull data directly from HubDB into CMS pages, creating an automated feed that eliminates manual page editing.
- Technical SEO Excellence: Executed a deep crawl with Screaming Frog and a comprehensive 301 redirect mapping workbook to protect over 80 pages of search equity.
RESULTS Increased Lead Gen and Fully-Booked Culinary Classes
The deployment of the new HubSpot ecosystem has yielded immediate and measurable business impact, transforming The Chopping Block’s digital operational capacity:
- Explosive Direct Traffic Growth: Direct sessions more than doubled year-over-year, jumping from roughly 28k to over 61k in peak months—indicating massive brand recall and intentional return visits.
- SEO Resilience & Dominance: Organic search remains the backbone of the funnel, driving over 1.7 million sessions and maintaining its position as the single largest share of monthly traffic.
- Emerging AI-Driven Discovery: AI-driven referrals jumped from zero to a sustained 300–490+ visits per month, proving that structured data (Schema) is successfully surfacing Culinary Boot Camps, private events and other services to new audiences.
